Elizabeth Seton head girls varsity basketball Coach Jasmina Perazic was named District Three Coach of the Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on March 13.
The 2008-2009 campaign marks Perazic’s third year at Elizabeth Seton High School. She led the Roadrunners to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference semifinals and a 24-7 overall record this season.
Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women’s basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as a sport for women and girls.
One of nine total districts in the country, district three covers Washington DC, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
In order to receive the Coach of the Year award, coaches must be nominated by a member of the WBCA at any level. Following nominations, a selection committee votes for its top choices. With the strongest regular season and tournament finishes in years, Perazic has been at the helm of turning the Seton basketball team into a true WCAC competitor during her tenure.
“I am honored and excited to be chosen as the District Three Coach of the Year,” Perazic said. “I have tremendous support from the Administration of Elizabeth Seton High School starting with our President Sister Virginia Ann Brooks, our Principal Mrs. Sharon Pasterick and our amazing Athletic Director Candy Cage.”
“I am excited for our team and for the success that it had this year,” she continued. “None of this would have been possible without our three junior captains: Tyaunna Marshall, who made All-Met and First Team WCAC this year, Alexis Martin and Julia Weatherly, who both made Honorable Mention WCAC. They have been the core of our program not just because of their talent but because of their hard work, selflessness and perseverance. Coaching at Seton has been the most enjoyable and the most rewarding experience.”

In addition to coaching at Seton, Perazic’s organization, MD Sports Association, conducts clinics in basketball, soccer, flag football, field hockey, lacrosse and tennis in partnership with the Montgomery County Department of Recreation.
An All-American at The University of Maryland, Perazic was also named Atlantic Coast Conference Most Valuable Player. Her retired #4 jersey currently hangs from the gym ceiling at Comcast Center. Perazic is also a member of the University of Maryland Hall of Fame, is a two-time Olympian for the former country of Yugoslavia, and was a member of the WNBA New York Liberty team in 1997.
